APRIL 1991

Cover Story: You don’t just go around accusing a guy of treason without good reason. But Sgt. Slaughter was guilty as charged as far as PWI and millions of wrestling fans were concerned. There was no need for a long, drawn-out trial. We were judge and jury. The story—“Sgt. Slaughter: Guilty Of Treason!”—pointed out just how despicable his choosing to abandon the U.S. and sympathize with Iraq during the Persian Gulf War was, especially for a man who had been such an American patriot for so, so long. His promo at Survivor Series 1990 was particularly disturbing, as he ripped into American soldiers serving in the Gulf. Included with the feature was a transcript of a letter signed by five servicemen stationed in the Gulf that put Slaughter in his place.

Eye-Catcher: In the days before the Adobe Photoshop art program was used so effectively, a flag of Ameriraq was a rare thing
