MARCH 2003

Cover Story: Playing off the titles of two popular films, PWI constructed the headline “Rocky Horror! He Won’t Forget What You Did Last Summer.” Rock, a fan favorite at the time, had been booed lustily by a New York crowd at SummerSlam even though he was supposed to be the hero defending the WWE title against villainous up-and-comer Brock Lesnar. It was to be his last WWE appearance for many months, since he was set to return to Hollywood to work on another movie. We reasoned that he wouldn’t forget that crowd reaction and wouldn’t be so fan-friendly upon his return to wrestling. And we were right. He returned as a cocky heel, which, in the bizarro world of pro wrestling, soon started to endear him to crowds again.

Eye-Catcher: Female readers had been badgering us for a shot of The Rock’s uvula for years
